A Derrick hand handles the uppermost section of the working string as it is brought from or lowered into the wellbore. The Derrick hand is responsible for the safe and effective operation and working condition of the derrick, mud pumps, fluids, and related equipment. Takes directions from the Operator or Relief Operator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the Operator with the raising and lowering of tubulars and sucker rod in and out of the hole.
- Responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and continual functions of the mud pumps, mud pit and the sack room.
- Oversees some of the machinery on the rig and is responsible for the conditioning of the fluid and the circulation machinery.
- Stacking and guiding pipe as it is tripped in and out or reconnected into the hole.
- Works with the mud systems, monitors weight and mixes weight properly while reporting any changes.
- The position requires mixing chemicals, monitoring pump manifolds and most importantly, good communication with the Operator.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed.
- All jobs must comply with Wyoming Casing standards from sale to completion.
- Reports directly to the Operator all concerns that will affect the efficiency or integrity of any contract job the corporation is involved in.
- Reports safety hazards, accidents, or maintenance issues to the Operator.
- Complete required work plans, job safety analysis, observations, and attends safety meetings as required.
- Any and all tasks assigned by Management.
